Our Kids, Their Education & Everyone's Future.
That is what I Stand for!
My priority is to ensure that all students in Preschool thru Adult Education have opportunities to learn from excellent teachers in a safe environment, and are able to obtain real-world, life skills to equip them for a prosperous future. I also support productive Charter Schools that provide a positive alternative to the traditional style of education. Additionally, I believe in parent voice on school issues, and I pledge to come to every school board meeting well informed, ready to make decisions that will promote what is best for our children and families.
I was born and raised in California. After my father was killed in a plane crash when I was six years old, my mother raised my siblings and me by herself and shared her strength and unwavering faith with us. After graduating from Concordia University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Education, I was a classroom teacher for twenty years. During this time I also received my Masters Degree in Education Administration from CSU Sacramento. I then became the principal of an alternative education high school, helped start a pre-apprenticeship program at the community college level, and later became a district grant writer and Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) director. I was also fortunate to work as the executive director for two education-related nonprofits in Sacramento and Orange County. My Education Doctorate is in leadership and policy, and I am currently a university instructor working with student teachers who are excited about their role as future educators.
I'm Listening! I want to hear your voice and concerns about your children's education. The work of the Sacramento County Office of Education is very much aligned with my 30+ years as an educator. I have authentic experience with public school teaching, administration, finance and management, and I understand both the joy and complexities of working with adjudicated youth in court and community schools. I am also an advocate for youth voice and engaging collaboration with parents and families. I believe there should always be a strong focus on student achievement and wellness which is paramount to successful schools. Additionally, life skills such as courtesy, respect for all backgrounds, teamwork, career awareness, and financial literacy should be a part of the instructional program throughout a child's schooling experience.
We are a large blended family which includes 5 adult children, 3 grand children and one grandbaby due in May 2024. My husband is a retired Operating Engineer and Airforce Reservist who loves to golf, tinker in the garage, and drive his side-by-side. Together we like to travel, watch movies, and work on house projects, and we are a proud military family. Our passions are helping to find solutions for the homelessness issues in our community, and to find ways to ensure that career training continually remains part of the education system on the local, state and national level.
Your support and contributions will enable me to represent your voice on the Sacramento County School Board!
